According to a leading paddock source, George Russell is a target for Aston Martin to lead their F1 revival in 2026. The team is considering him for their future plans post the major regulation changes in Formula 1. With the responsibility entrusted to legendary designer Adrian Newey to create a competitive car with new engine and chassis rules, Russell emerges as a potential shock contender for the driver seat. Russell’s contract with Mercedes ends this year, and although he hasn’t signed a new deal and was asked about it after his victory in Montreal, he expressed confidence in being on the grid next year. Despite Toto Wolff’s pursuit of Max Verstappen last season, Russell remains clear about his intention to stay with Mercedes, with both sides yet to finalize terms but having agreed on a timeline for negotiations.
